Sitting with the Sacred: Reflections on Wrestling with God

Sitting with the Sacred is my spiritual journal, a place to share my spiritual questions, struggles and insights.

Everyone faces challenges. I happen to have cerebral palsy and to use a wheelchair. Anxiety and OCD are also a part of my experience.

Since June 2020, I’ve lived with my parents and my poodle, in Galveston Texas. I’ve always wanted to live here because I love salt water, sea fog, storytelling, and second (and third, and fourth) chances, and my hometown knows about all of these.

All of my passions and all of my struggles, along with those of the people who’ve traveled through life before and alongside me, have shaped my spirituality. This is true of all of us. That’s why I’m sharing this journal. Let’s stick together as we grow on this journey with and to God.

If I had to choose one quotation to describe why I write this blog, what I want it and my life to be about, it would be a quotation from Becca Stevens, the founder of Thistle Farms, which the Center for Action and Contemplation describes as, “a social enterprise run by survivors of sexual abuse, trafficking, and addiction.”

I don’t have direct experience with these traumas. Nonetheless, the following quotation deeply resonates with me:

“I was bored by trendy cause-hawking that left me feeling disconnected. I was disillusioned by a bifurcated political system that numbs compassion. I wanted to do the work of healing from the inside out.”
